I love hockey. I grew up playing the sport, and still have a deep nostalgic connection to it. Seeing this campaign take off to support LGBT athletes is just fantastic. This is something that needed to be done, and I’m immensely proud of the NHL players and staff who have come out of the woodwork to support this effort.
Patrick Burke, a scout for the Philadlphia Flyers, is one of the major forces behind the effort. He recently reached out the the Reddit.com community via an AMA, and I couldn’t have been more impressed with him. This guy is not only running this program and working as a professional scout, but he is also making his way through law school. Wow. If you aren’t familiar with him or the Burke family story, it is worth looking into. Although tragic, it is equally inspiring.
